TRAVIS URBAN


Travis Urban is an American violist and teacher currently residing in The Hague. He is a native of College Station, Texas. 


Travis received his Bachelors in Music from Sam Houston State University where he studied viola with Dawson White. He also holds a Bachelors in History from Texas A&M University where he specialized in early modern European history. Travis is currently working on a Masters of Music at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague in the Netherlands. He studies viola with Ásdís Valdimarsdottir. His research focuses on the neglected viola repertoire from the 18th century. 


From 2015-2021 Travis taught beginning strings for College Station ISD public schools. He holds a teacher certificate from the state of Texas and is frequently hired to judge area music competitions. Travis is also a sought after private lesson instructor and maintains a private studio of talented young viola and violin students.


Travis is an avid chamber musician. He founded the College Station String Quartet in 2009 which has performed throughout Texas. The quartet also performs many of Travis’ unique arrangements of classical, pop, jazz, swing, and salon music. Travis has performed in chamber concerts and festivals in the US, France, Germany, and the Netherlands.


Travis served as principal viola with the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra from 2016-2021.
