TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

Lessons are tailored to each student's personality, learning style, goals, and abilities, with a strong emphasis on developing sound technical fundamentals. A solid technical foundation gives students the freedom to express themselves with confidence and creativity. While maintaining high expectations, lessons are designed to be both challenging and enjoyable, creating an environment where students feel supported as they grow. Careful attention to detail is balanced with patience and encouragement, and the pace and content of each lesson are adapted to keep students engaged and motivated.

Learning an instrument is about much more than developing musical skills. Lessons also foster habits and ways of thinking that extend beyond music, including time management, personal responsibility, problem-solving, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, perseverance, and self-confidence. Students also gain an appreciation for history, culture, and artistic expression. The goal is to help each student become a thoughtful, well-rounded musician while developing skills that will serve them throughout life.

Instruction is offered to students of all ages and ability levels. Beginning students learn the fundamentals of music literacy, healthy instrument positioning, and beautiful tone production. Parents of younger students are encouraged to take an active role in establishing productive practice habits and supporting consistent progress at home. With intermediate and advanced students, lessons expand to include more sophisticated technique, a broad range of repertoire, music theory, chamber music, and musical interpretation.
