LESSONS

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

My lessons are customized for each student’s personality, learning style, and abilities. I put a strong emphasis on developing instrumental technique and fundamentals. With a good foundation students are more easily able to express themselves in an imaginative way. I challenge my students with high standards in a learning environment that is fun and engaging. I believe that students learn best when they feel challenged, but also successful and confident about themselves. I am a detail-oriented and rigorous teacher but I find balance through patience and kindness. I maintain a keen awareness to pacing, interests, and motivation so that my students never get bored.

Learning an instrument is truly a life enriching experience! In my lessons we will explore time management, personal accountability, physiology and anatomy, problem solving, creativity, individual expression, critical thinking, collaboration with others, goal setting, perseverance, mindfulness, self-esteem, history, culture, and more! My goal is to help my students become high performing in all aspects touched by music.

I am experienced with teaching a wide range of ages and abilities. In beginning instrumental lessons I teach the foundations of music literacy, how to hold and position the instrument and bow, and of course how to create a beautiful sound! With my younger students, I partner with the parents to assist with at-home practice and to encourage good habits. With more advanced students we dive deeper into advanced techniques and repertoire, music theory, and chamber music.
